From TRS-80 to Today: Helping You Make Sense of Your Tech

March 20, 20262 min read

If you’ve ever felt frustrated trying to figure out your computer—whether it’s setting something up, fixing an issue, or just understanding what all those settings actually do—you’re in the right place.

My name is Jason Melancon, and I’ve been around computers long enough to remember when “loading a program” sometimes meant waiting… and hoping.

I got my start back in 1984 with a TRS-80 MC-10. From there, I moved on to a Commodore 64, then an Atari 800XL, and eventually an IBM PS/2 in the early 90s. Somewhere along the way, this went from curiosity to a full-blown lifelong interest.

Since then, I’ve spent years building PCs, troubleshooting problems, and helping friends and family get their systems working the way they should. No fancy jargon, no overcomplicating things—just figuring out what works and what doesn’t.

Why I Created This Site

At some point, you realize you’ve learned a lot—not because you sat down to study it, but because you’ve been doing it for decades.

I started this site to share that experience and connect with a wider community of people who just want their tech to make sense.

There’s no shortage of information out there, but a lot of it feels either too technical or not practical enough. My goal is to sit right in the middle—clear, useful, and grounded in real-world experience.

What You Can Expect Here

This site is built around one simple idea: helping you feel more confident with your technology.

That means:

  • Breaking things down into plain English

  • Walking through setups and fixes step-by-step

  • Sharing what actually works (and what’s not worth your time)

  • Giving you the kind of advice I’d give a friend or neighbor

Whether you’re setting up your first PC, trying to fix something that’s acting up, or just want to understand your system a little better, you’ll find something here for you.

A Little About Me

I’m a Cajun guy originally from Louisiana, and while this site is all about computers, that background tends to show up here and there—usually in the form of a little humor and a straightforward way of explaining things.

I’ve always believed that complicated topics don’t need complicated explanations. Sometimes you just need someone to walk you through it in a way that makes sense.

Let’s Keep It Simple

Technology doesn’t have to be overwhelming. With the right approach, it can actually be pretty straightforward—and even a little enjoyable.

That’s what I’m aiming for here.

So grab a cup of coffee, take a look around, and let’s make your tech a little easier to deal with.
